Slept until 8am at a campsite right near the road. Three other thru hikers camped near me, talking and playing their MP3 player. At 8:05, dear flies covered my body. Frustrated yet simultaneously relieved that something was forcing me out of my bag, I quickly got moving. Got water at fire station across the street. Ready to be done with the Mohave Desert. It’s brutal…the heat. Met up w Skippy in the morning. Hiked in that dang mentioned heat. Trail magic: homemade brownies and bread. Sat on side of road w Skippy, in full sun, munching away. Hip flexor hurting. Lots of flying insects: dear flies, little flies, gigantic mosquitoes, little mosquitoes. Shit, why did I ditch my bug spray in the hiker box!? Note to self: don’t breath through mouth unless you want to eat em. Camped a little earlier than usual, on a ridge, at mile 495. Ate sausage and cheese tortillas and hot cocoa. Looking forward to the 500 mile marker tomorrow!
